CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE N0. 83- 136 <br />BY: DWAYNE WOERPFL <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1221.09 OF THE ZONING <br />CODE ENTITLED "SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS" OF CHAPTER <br />1221 ENTITLED" SIGNS"; AS :R:^TF:]`1T)I:?l. <br />WHEREAS, this Council has reviewed Section 1221.09 with <br />respect to illumination of signs and finds that there are <br />presently no regulations regarding the illumination of the <br />columns for signs, and <br />tiNHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to make a pro- <br />vision in the Zoning Code to prohibit the illumination of support- <br />ing columns with respect to pole signs. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That Section 1221.09 of the Zoning Code entitled <br />"Supplementary Regulations" of Chapter 1221 entitled "Signs" which <br />now reads: <br />"1221.09 Supplementary Regulations <br />There is hereby established Supplementary Regulations <br />relative to this Chapter, which regulations shall be as follows: <br />(A) General Location - Any sign shall not project over <br />or o struct t e required window or doors of any <br />building, attached to or obstruct a fire escape or <br />interfere with other safety provisions as may be <br />further regulated in the Building Code. <br />Unless regulated otherwise in the Traffic Code, <br />signs shall not be erected so as to obstruct <br />traffic control lights, signs at street inter- <br />sections, sight lines within street lines, or <br />signals at railroad grade crossings. <br />(B) Prohibited Language - Signs visible from the sight <br />lines wit in street lines shall not contain an <br />arrow or words such as "stop", "go", "slow", or <br />otherwise resenble highway"traffic signs. <br />(C) Illumination of Signs - Light sources to illuminate <br />signs s all e re lected and shielded and not be <br />of excessive brightness or cause glare hazardous to <br />pedestrians or auto drivers or be objectionable to <br />adjacent Residential Districts. The colors red <br />or green, either in direct illumination or reflection, <br />shall not be used where it may interfere with the <br />sight lines of a traffic signal. Flashing, moving <br />or intermittent illumination and "outline lighting" <br />shall not be permitted by right; the Board may, <br />however, make a finding and permit such lighting <br />as a Conditional Use; if such permit is granted, <br />the maximum area of signs shall be reduced by one- <br />half (1/2).
