?-?.......??..?..r ... .. ??.,.., <br />.?. .?.. ?.,.. .: <br />(d) If any waters or wastes are discharged or are proposed to be <br />discharged to the public sewers, which waters contain the substance or <br />possess the characteristics enumerated fn subsection (c) hereof, and <br />which, in the judgment of the Service Director may have a deleterious <br />effect upon the sewage works, processes, equipment or receiving <br />waters, or which otherwise create a hazard to life or constitute a <br />public nuisance, the Service Director may: <br />(1) Reject the wastes; <br />(2) Require pretreatment to an acceptable condition in <br />accordance with guidelines adopted in the Ordinances of <br />this City for discharge into the public sewers; <br />(3) Require control over quantities and rates of discharge; <br />and or <br />(4) Require payment to cover the added cost of handling and <br />treatment of the wastes not covered by existing taxes or <br />sewer charges under the provisions of subsection (i) <br />hereof. <br />If the Service Director permits the pretreatment or equalization <br />of waste flows, the design and installation of the plants and <br />equipment shall be subject to the review and approval of the City <br />Engineer and subject to the requirements of all applicable coc3es, <br />ordinances, and laws. <br />(e) All food establishments which maintain a kitchen or other <br />facilities for the preparation of fooc3 shall be required to have a <br />1,000-gallon capacity grease trap (grease interceptor). Such grease <br />trap shall be installed at least ten feet from the building whezein <br />the food is prepared, and such grease trap shall be cleaned and <br />maintained to the s#tisfaction of the Service Director, evidence of <br />such cleaning to be exhibited to a member of the Service Department <br />upon request and further grease, oil and sand interceptors shall be <br />provided when, in the opinion of the Service Director, they are <br />necessary for the pioper handling of liquid wastes containing grease <br />in excessive amounts, or any flammable wastes, sand and other harmful <br />ingredients, except that such interceptors shall not be required for <br />private living quarters or dwelling units. All interceptors shall be <br />of a type and capacity approved by the Service Director, and shall be <br />locateci as to be readily accessible for cleaning and inspection. <br />Grease and oil interceptors shall be constructed of impervious <br />materials capable of withstanding abrupt and extreme changes in <br />temperature. They shall be of substantial construction, watertight <br />and equipped with easily removable covers which, when bolted in place, <br />shall be gastight and watertight. <br />Where fnstalled, all grease, oil and sand interceptors shall be <br />maintained by the owner, at his expense, in continuously efficient <br />operation at all times. <br />-24-
