<br /> <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE N0. 85-97 <br />BY: _? . <br />+ <br />i <br />? 31 tqfs <br />AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE SUBMISSION TO THE <br />ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED OF AN AMENDMENT TO <br />THE CHARTER PROVIDING THAT EXISTING STAGGERED TERMS FOR <br />COUNCIL MEMBERS BE ELIMINATED AND THAT ALL TERMS OF <br />OFFICE FOR ALL COUNCIL MEMBERS SHALL COMMENCE AND END AT <br />THE SAME TIME, AS RECOMMENDED BY THE CHARTER REVIEW <br />COMMISSION AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />with this Council. <br />WHEREAS, the Charter Review Commission of the City of North Olmsted, <br />appointed pursuant to Article XIV of the Charter of the City of North <br />Olmsted, has filed its report of recommended amendments to the Charter <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO, TWO-THIRDS OF ALL MEMBERS <br />CONCURRING: <br />SECTION l: That this Council hereby authorizes and directs the <br />submission to the electors of the City of North Olmsted at the General <br />Election to be held at the usual places of voting in said City on Tuesday, <br />November 5, 1985, the following separate proposal to amend the Charter of <br />the City of North Olmsted: <br />Proposal: That Article IV, Section 1 of the Charter relating to the <br />terms of office of the members of Council be amended to provide that the <br />terms of all Council members shall commence and end at the same time, such <br />amended Section 1 of Article IV to read as follows: <br />ARTICLE IV <br />THE COUNCIL <br />SEC. 1. NUMBER AND TERMS. <br />All legislative powers of this City, except as otherwise provided by <br />this Charter and by the Constitution of the State of Ohio, shall be vested <br />in a Council of seven (7) members, four (4) of whom shall be elected by <br />the several wards and three (3) of whom shall be elected at large. <br />Commencing with the <br />every fourth (4th) year th, <br />members of Council elected <br />Council elected at large <br />Said members of Council <br />assume office on the first <br />regular municipal election in the year 1989 and <br />E?reafter, the President of Council, the four (4) <br />from several wards and the three (3) members of <br />shall be elected for a term of four (4) years. <br />so elected and the President of Council shall <br />day of January next following their election. <br />Consistent with this amendment, the election to the at large positions <br />voted on in the regular municipal election in 1987 shall be for two (2) <br />years commencing January 1, 1988, and ending December 31, 1989.
