35. Unpaid Sick Leave. A regular full-time employee who <br />has completed his probationary period and who has exhausted <br />his paid sick leave shall be granted a leave of absence with- <br />out pay for a period not to exceed six (6) months for a <br />continuing disability which is substantiated by credible <br />medical evidence. If the illness or disability continues <br />beyond six (6) months, additional sick leave may be granted <br />by the City upon request. The employee shall be required to <br />submit proof acceptable to the City of his ability to perform <br />the work of his job upon the termination of the sick leave. <br />Any dispute as to the ability of an employee to perform the <br />work of the job shall be determined pursuant to the medical <br />examination procedure in Paragraph 38(c). <br />36. Union Leave. <br />Upon written request from the Union, a <br />leave of absence without pay shall be granted to not more <br />than three (3) employees for a period of not in excess of ten <br />(10) days per year each (fifteen (15) days per year in which <br />an employee attends the convention of the International Union), <br />for the purpose of attending Union conventions or other Union <br />activities which necessitate a suspension of active employment. <br />Additional absences for Union business may be permitted as <br />conditions permit, having in mind the volume of work. <br />-19- <br />,
