r <br />I <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 86- 95 <br />BY: DEAN MCKAY <br />A RESOLUTION URGING OUR STATE LEGISLATURE TO ENACT A <br />BOTTLE AND CAN DEPOSIT LAW FOR THE STATE OF OHIO IN <br />ORDER TO HELP ALLEVIATE LITTER AND KEEP OHIO BEAUTIFUL, <br />AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Ohio Litter Control Act of 1980 provides, through the <br />Department of Natural Resources, Office for Litter Control, allocation of <br />public funds in the form of grants for the purpose of local litter control <br />programs; and <br />WfiEREAS, bottles and cans make up a good portion of the litter <br />collected in our public parks and along the roadside; and <br />WHEREAS, other States have adopted a deposit law for bottles and cans <br />and this has cut their litter problem considerably for that particular <br />problem; and <br />WHEREAS, in order to help alleviate a good portion of the litter strewn <br />about, we urge the Legislature of the State of Ohio to enact a bottle and <br />can deposit law for the State of Ohio, this would not only help in the area <br />of litter control for bottles and cans, but would also make the public more <br />aware of what their litter does to detract from the beauty of our State. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Council and Administration of the City of North <br />Olmsted, Ohio, urge our State Legislature to enact a Bottle and Can Deposit <br />Law for the State of Ohio in order to help alleviate litter and to keep <br />Ohio Beautiful. <br />SECTION 2: That the within Resolution is presented as an emergency <br />measure necessary for the immediate preservation and protection of the <br />public peace, health, safetp and general welfare of the inhabitants of the <br />City, and for the further reason that the within action consitutes a part <br />of the usual daily operation of a department of the City; and, therefore, <br />this Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage by <br />Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />PASSED • f?_ <br />ATTEST: <br />1
