BY : ~ , -~L .. <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 87-117 <br />A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF H.B. 428, <br />THE HAZARDOUS MATERIAL TRANSPORTATION BILL <br />WHEREAS, Interstate 480 traverses the entire length of our Community, <br />and <br />WHEREAS, trucks travelling the highway may carry many hazardous <br />substances that if spilled could endanger tens of thousands of North <br />Olmsted residents, and <br />WHEREAS, the Council of Governments through its Westshore Enforcement <br />Bureau is currently studying the feasibility of establishing and <br />implementing a hazardous response team for its member communities, and <br />WHEREAS, by providing for the registration of hazardous material <br />carriers, the adoption of rules aimed at the prevention of a catastrophe <br />involving hazardous materials and an effective means of insuring compliance <br />with the rules, H.B. 248 represents a comprehensive response to a threat to <br />the public. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION l: That this Council extends its support for the adoption of <br />H.B. 428, the Hazardous Material Transportation Bill because it will help <br />minimize the impact of the hazardous material spills that do occur. <br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and directed <br />to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Governor Richard F. <br />Celeste, State House, Columbus, Ohio 43216; Speaker of the House, Mr. <br />Vernal G. Riffe; Mr. Thomas V. Chema, Chairman of the Sub-Committee of <br />Highways and Public Safety Committee; Representative Francine Panehal, <br />Senator Charles Butts and President of the Senate, Paul G.
