CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED RESOLUTION N0. 87-117 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF H.B. 428, THE HAZARDOUS MATERIAL TRANSPORTATION BILL WHEREAS, Interstate 480 traverses the entire length of our Community, and WHEREAS, trucks travelling the highway may carry many hazardous substances that if spilled could endanger tens of thousands of North Olmsted residents, and WHEREAS, the Council of Governments through its Westshore Enforcement Bureau is currently studying the feasibility of establishing and implementing a hazardous response team for its member communities, and WHEREAS, by providing for the registration of hazardous material carriers, the adoption of rules aimed at the prevention of a catastrophe involving hazardous materials and an effective means of insuring compliance with the rules, H.B. 248 represents a comprehensive response to a threat to the public. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: SECTION l: That this Council extends its support for the adoption of H.B. 428, the Hazardous Material Transportation Bill because it will help minimize the impact of the hazardous material spills that do occur. SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Governor Richard F. Celeste, State House, Columbus, Ohio 43216; Speaker of the House, Mr. Vernal G. Riffe; Mr. Thomas V. Chema, Chairman of the Sub-Committee of Highways and Public Safety Committee; Representative Francine Panehal, Senator Charles Butts and President of the Senate, Paul G. Gilmore. SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
