EXHIBIT B-9, cont. <br />OPERATOR <br />Removes scum from primary tanks, draws sludge and pumps into <br />sludge holding tanks; washes down tanks; performs laboratory <br />tests as directed; maintains monitoring watch over operation <br />during shift and assists in the maintenance of shift operation <br />reports. <br />Assists other operators and maintenance personnel in switching <br />pumps, transferring sludge; charging chemical hoppers and mixing <br />chamber; cleaning and maintaining plant equipment and facilities. <br />Subject to 24-hour call during emergency situations. <br />Performs related work as required. <br />Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills <br />Some knowledge of the specific operations and service require- <br />ments of the major items of pump and treatment plant. <br />Some knowledge of the fundamental processes involved in the <br />pumping, treatment, and disposal of wastewater. <br />Ability to inspect operating mechanical and electrical equipment; <br />to detect minor flaws and defects in its operation; and to effect <br />appropriate remedial measures when necessary. <br />Ability to read meters and charts accurately and to maintain <br />routine records of shift operations. <br />Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. <br />Ability to make mathematical computations with speed and <br />accuracy. <br />Ability to perform moderately heavy manual work. <br />Ability and willingness to use a variety of special safety <br />devices; such as, inhalators, safety belts, special gloves, and <br />related safety equipment. <br />Mechanical aptitude and good general intelligence. <br />Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships <br />with employees and the general public. <br />65 <br />-.. <br />
