<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 87- 18 <br />BY: WILLIAM LACKEY <br />RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR CUYAHOGA COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY <br />SYSTEM. <br />WHEREAS, the results of increased public demand upon Cuyahoga County <br />Public Library and its lack of adequate funding to meet those demands have <br />left County Library with a continuing list of unmet needs; and <br />WHEREAS, the lack of adequate funding has caused understocking of books <br />and other materials in most branch libraries; and <br />WHEREAS, during the years between 1970 and 1985, Cuyahoga County Public <br />Library's share of total county circulation increased from 29.7 to 43.2; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, in terms of geographic area, Cuyahoga County Public Libaray's <br />primary service area encompasses 324 square miles of the total 457 square <br />miles within the County; and <br />WHEREAS, serving 48 separate political subdivisions, County Library's <br />primary service area is more than four times the size of Cleveland Public <br />Library's service area; and <br />WHEREAS, despite the facts at hand, County Library's disproportionate <br />funding has continued from 1970 when County Library received 28.4 of <br />available funds to 1985 when only 33.5 of available funds are distributed <br />to County Library; and <br />WHEREAS, Cuyahoga County Public Library has substantiated its need for <br />additional funding to address the growing needs of library programs and <br />services to the majority of residents living in Cuyahoga County. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION I: That the City of North Olmsted supports the decision f the <br />County Budget Commission in allocating additional funds to the Cuyahoga <br />County Public Library and urge them to continue future funding based on <br />actual needs and established records of performance. <br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk of this Council is hereby authorized to <br />forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the County Budget <br />Commission. <br />1 <br />
