CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 91-113 <br />BY: MAYOR BOYLE AND CITY COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION URGING CONGRESS TO PASS LEGISLATION ALLOWING <br />MUNICIPALITIES TO RE-REGULATE CABLE TELEVISION. <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of the City of North Olmsted have <br />received numerous complaints from the citizens of North Olmsted concerning <br />escalating cable TV rates, lack of programming guides, poor programming <br />selection, poor service and inflexibility of North Olmsted's cable TV operator; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council believe that the only method to reduce <br />cable TV rates and improve service is through Federal legislation allowing re- <br />regulation of both rates and service by municipalities; and <br />~vHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council are aware that the Federal <br />Communications Commission is taking steps in very limited circumstances to allow <br />re-regulation of prices charged by cable systems which provide service to <br />approximately 35% of the nation's cable television subscribers, primarily in <br />rural areas; and <br />WHEREAS, the rlayor and City Council are aware of a variety of legislation <br />which has been introduced before Congress which would allow rmunicipalities to <br />re-regulate cable system rates; and <br />WHEREAS, this Mayor and City Council request Congress to enact legislation <br />allowing the local re-regulation of cable fees. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Council of the City of North Olmsted, <br />County of Cuyahoga, State of Ohio: <br />Section l: That this Council, on behalf of the administration and the <br />citizens of the City of North Olmsted, hereby urges Congress to enact <br />legislation which will allow municipalities to re-regulate cable fees and <br />service. <br />Section 2: That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and <br />directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to all Cuyahoga County <br />members of the House of Representatives and the two Senators representing the <br />State of Ohio. <br />
