CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 91-112 <br />BY: MAYOR BOYLE AND CITY COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION PROTESTING THE UNREASONABLE WATER RATE INCREASE AND <br />REQUESTING THAT CLEVELAND CITY COUNCIL RECONSIDER THE DISTRIBUTION <br />BETWEEN SUBURBAN AND CLEVELAND WATER USERS. <br />WHEREAS, the Cleveland City Council has enacted a water rate increase which <br />has a direct affect upon all suburban water users; and <br />WI-AREAS, the charges to suburban water users exceed 100% of the charge to <br />Cleveland water users; and <br />WHEREAS, the net scheduled increase in water rates exceeds 50% of the <br />present water rates paid by suburban water users; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Cleveland had been requested, prior to enacting the <br />water rate increase, to more equitably distribute the costs for the operation of <br />the Cleveland Water Department; and <br />WHEREAS, undermaintained and aging water lines in the suburban area have <br />caused suburbanites to expend large sums of money and time to repair their <br />streets affected by water line breaks; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council strongly protest the difference in rate <br />application and strongly urge the City of Cleveland to reconsider the water <br />rates in a more equitable and fair manner for all suburban users. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Council of the City of North Olmsted, <br />County of Cuyahoga, State of Ohio, that: <br />Section l: The Mayor and Council of the City of North Olmsted do hereby <br />strongly protest the unequal water rate increase imposed by the Council of the <br />City of Cleveland and strongly urge the City of Cleveland to reconsider the <br />inequitable and unfair charges to suburban water users and to enact a more <br />equitable water rate charge in line with the Cleveland water users <br />Section Z: The Clerk of Council be and she is hereby directed to forward a <br />copy of this Resolution to the Cuyahoga County Mayors and Managers Association <br />with a request to review the Cleveland water rate hike for determination of any <br />action that may be appropriate to receive a more equitable rate charge. <br />Section 3: The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and directed to <br />forward certified copies of this legislation to Michael R. White, Mayor of the <br />City of Cleveland, Michael G. Konicek, Director of the Department of Public <br />Utilities, Julius Ciaccia, Jr., Commissioner, Division of Water of the City of <br />Cleveland, and to the Clerk of Council of the City of Cleveland. <br />
