(16) Any water or waste that for a duration of fifteen minutes has <br />a concentration greater than three times that ~~ is <br />specified for TSS and BOD under Section 911.14 and/or which is <br />discharged continuously at a rate exceeding 200 gallons per <br />minute, will be unacceptable. <br />(d) If any waters or wastes are discharged or are proposed to be <br />discharged to the public sewers, which water contain the substance or <br />possess the characteristics enumerated in subsection (c) hereof, and <br />wh~.ch, in the judgement of the Service Director may have a deleterious <br />effect upon the sewage works, processes, equi <br />or which otherwise create a hazard to life oronsttituteca~publica.ters, <br />nuisance, the Service Director may; <br />(1) Reject the wastes; <br />(2) Repair pretreatment to an acceptable condition in <br />accordance with guidelines adopted in the ordinances of <br />this City for discharge into the public sewers: <br />(3) Require control over quantities and rates of discharge; <br />and/or <br />(4) Require payment to cover the added cost of handling and <br />treatment of the wastes not covered by existing taxes <br />or sewer charges under the provisions of subsection <br />(i) hereof. <br />If the Service Director permits the pretreatment or equalization <br />of waste flows, the design and installation of the plants and equipment <br />shall be subject to the review and approval of the City Engineer and <br />subject to the requirements of all applicable codes, ordinances and <br />laws. <br />(e) All food establishments which maintain a kitchen or other <br />facilities for the preparation of food shall be required. to have a <br />1,000 gallon capacity grease trap (grease interceptor), Such grease <br />trap shall be installed at least ten feet from the building wherein the <br />food is prepared, and such grease trap shall be cleaned and maintained <br />to the satisfaction of the Service Director, evidence of such cleaning <br />to be exhibited to a member of the Service Department upon request and <br />further grease, oil and sand interceptors shall be provided when, in the <br />opinion of the Service Director, they are necessary for the purpose of <br />handling of liquid wastes containi ~ grease in excessive amounts, or any <br />flammable wastes, sand and other harmful ingredients, except that such <br />interceptors shall not be required for private liv <br />dwelling units. All interceptors shall be of a typegan capacity <br />approved by the Service Director, and shall be located as to be readily <br />accessible for cleaning anti inspection. <br />Grease and oil interceptors shall be constructed of impervious <br />materials capable of withstanding abrupt and extreme changes in <br />temperature. They shall be of substantial construction, watertight and <br />equipped with easily removable covers which, when bolted in place, shall <br />be gastight and watertight. <br />Where installed, all grease, oil and sand interceptors shall be <br />maintained by the owner, at his expense, in continuously efficient <br />operation at all times. <br />- ZO - <br />
