J <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 93-126 <br />BY: MAYOR ED BOYLE AND THE ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION URGING PASSAGE OF THE BRADY BILL AND OF <br />LEGISLATION BANNING ASSAULT WEAPONS, AND DECLAR/NG <br />AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, In August, 1993, President Clinton called upon Congress to pass <br />the Brady Bill without further delay; and <br />WHEREAS, The Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee wants to put the <br />Brady Bill into a larger crime bill which could delay passage for severa/ months; and <br />WHEREAS, In the Senate, the National Rifle Association will attempt to stall the <br />bill by mounting a f?libuster or weaken it by passing various "technical" amendments; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, An even tougher fight is expected on legislation to ban assault <br />weapons especially from the NRA which has pledged to defeat any proposed limit on <br />assault weapons; and <br />WHEREAS, It is important for this Administration and City Council and for the <br />sake of the safety of all of our citizenry to take action in support of the Brady Bill as a <br />separate measure and to urge swift passage of legislation banning assault weapons. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1: That this Administration and Council urge Congress to pass these <br />important measures so that we do not lose our next generation to gunfire.
