CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 93-47 <br />BY: THE r1AY0R AND ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING APRIL AS FAIR HOUSING MONTH. <br />WHEREAS, it is imperative that every local government <br />actively support the enforcement of fair housing laws and <br />affirm the civil rights of every homeseeker and resident; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, on the 25th Anniversary of the passage of the <br />original housing law, the 1968 Civil Rights Act, our <br />community is proud to join several other Greater Cleveland <br />communities in a collaborative effort to support April as <br />National Fair Housing Month; and <br />WHEREAS, with passage of this Resolution, we support <br />efforts to assure a diverse community mix; and <br />WHEREAS, on March 12, 1989, the 1988 Fair Housing <br />Amendments Act became effective and added two new protected <br />classes, the familial status and the handicapped. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council is committed to open <br />and equal housing opportunities for all citizens and affirms <br />that commitment by recognizing April as Fair Housing Month. <br />SECTION 2: That it is the goal of this Council to <br />eliminate housing discrimination and assure the rights of <br />every citizen to buy, rent or sell housing without regard to <br />race, sex, religion, national origin or handicap. <br />SECTION 3: That this Resolution is hereby declared to <br />be an emergency measure immediately necessary for the <br />preservation of the public health, safety and welfare and <br />further provided it receives an affirmative vote of two- <br />thirds of all members of Council, it shall take effect and <br />be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by the <br />Mayor.
