CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 93-15 <br />BY: The Mayor and Entire City Council <br />A RESOLUTION URGING CONGRESS TO SUPPORT THE RETENTION <br />AND CONSOLIDATION OF THE DEFENSE FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING <br />SERVICE IN CLEVELAND. <br />WHEREAS, for the past 50 years, the Defense Finance <br />and Accounting Service (DFAS) has been an important part of <br />Cleveland's employment base; and <br />WHEREAS, under a Congressional mandate, the U.S. <br />Department of Defense is implementing a plan to consolidate <br />its administrative functions in order to streamline <br />operations and cut costs; and <br />WHEREAS, on January 4, 1993, the City of Cleveland was <br />one of 20 communities that submitted a proposal to secure a <br />DFAS consolidated payroll center here; and <br />WHEREAS, the news jobs and opportunities that the DFAS <br />center would provide for the Greater Cleveland urban <br />population would help the City of Cleveland in its effort to <br />reverse the economic decline which has also affected many of <br />our nation's other urban centers; and <br />WHEREAS, if successful in its endeavor to secure a <br />DFAS consolidated payroll and accounting center, Cleveland <br />will gain 2,400 new jobs; and <br />WHEREAS, if unsuccessful, Cleveland stands to lose <br />1,500 jobs. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section l: That it is the desire of this City Council <br />to support the City of Cleveland in its efforts to keep this <br />important federal institution in Cleveland. <br />Section 2: That this Resolution shall take effect and <br />be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by <br />law.
