CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0.2011 - 9 <br />By: Mayor Kennedy <br />A RESOL UTION A UTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND <br />DEVELOPMENT TO MAKE APPLICATION FOR A CERTIFIED LOCAL <br />GOVERNMENT (CLG) GRANT ADMINISTERED BY THE OHIO <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION OFFICE; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE <br />MAYOR TO ACCEPT THE CLG GRANT IF AWARDED AND <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO EXPEND FUNDS TO SATISFY LOCAL <br />MA TCH REQ UIREMENTS, AND DECLARING AN EMER GENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the City of North Olmsted in 2009 obtained Certified Local Government <br />("CLG") status and as a result the City is now eligible to apply for CLG grants from the National <br />Park Service through the Ohio Historic Preservation Office; and <br />WHEREAS, in the late 1970's the Landmarks Commission was awarded a grant from the <br />Ohio Historical Society to conduct a comprehensive inventory of historical homes, which <br />inventory formed the basis for establishment of the Butternut Ridge Historical District and <br />subsequent CLG designation for the City of North Olmsted; and <br />WHEREAS, the Ohio Historical Society maintains an Internet based system for inventory <br />and catalogue of historical homes, which provides the basis for record maintenance and future <br />funding, but the Landmarks Commissions' existing inventory for Butternut Ridge predates this <br />modern system; and <br />WHEREAS, the Director of Planning and Development and the Landmarks Commission <br />believe that these grant funds should be utilized to update and modernize the City's inventory of <br />historical structures, especially within the Butternut Ridge Historical District, in order to <br />establish the basis for future CLG grant applications and funding of improvements in the City; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the grant if awarded will cover 60% of the cost of the improvement project, <br />with the remaining 40% of the cost paid by the City; and <br />WHEREAS, it is accordingly the desire of this Council to authorize the Director of <br />Planning and Development to make application for said CLG grant, and to authorize the Mayor <br />to accept the grant if awarded. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council does hereby authorize the Director of Planning and <br />Development to prepare, sign and submit an application for the CLG Grant on behalf of the City <br />of North Olmsted in order to update the comprehensive inventory of historical homes and <br />landmarks in the City of North Olmsted; does further authorize the use of matching City funds <br />for the project as described in the application, for personal service costs and an additional <br />amount as yet undetermined for project administration costs; and does authorize the Mayor to <br />
