CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0.2011 - 10 <br />By: Mayor Kennedy <br />A RESOL UTION A UTHOF_IZING THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY <br />ON BEHALF OF THE CITY TO APPLY FOR A FISCAL YEAR 2010 <br />ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT FOR THE PURPOSE OF <br />CREATING COMMUNITY PROGRAMS TO PROMOTE FIRE SAFETY; <br />FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR, IF THE APPLICATION IS <br />GRANTED, TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE <br />APPROPRIATE AGENCY TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT FUNDS, AND <br />DECLARING AN EMER GENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Homeland Security has invited application for the FY <br />2010 Assistance to Firefighters Grants ("AFG") Program. The application period ends on <br />February 4, 2011; and <br />WHEREAS, by and through grant funds, the North Olmsted Division of Fire desires to <br />establish community initiatives which may include a 3`d grade safety program and a smoke <br />detector program and may further use said funds for the purpose of fire investigation training; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, AFG grant awards aim to enhance response capabilities and to more <br />effectively protect the health and safety of the public with respect to fire and other hazards. The <br />grants enable local fire departments and emergency medical services organizations to obtain <br />training, conduct first responder health and safety programs, and buy equipment and response <br />vehicles; and <br />WHEREAS, a 10% matching fund on the part of the City will be required; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to authorize the Director of Public Safety on <br />behalf of the City to apply for the Department of Homeland Security FY 2010 Assistance to <br />Firefighters Grant to establish comrnuni~y safety programs and conduct fire investigation <br />training; to further authorize the Mayor to accept the Grant, if awarded, and to execute a contract <br />if required; and to finally authorize the Director of Public Safety to execute all other documents <br />necessary to effectuate receipt of the Grant; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION l: That the Director of Public Safety be and is hereby authorized to apply for <br />the Department of Homeland Security FY 2010 Assistance to Firefighters Grant. <br />SECTION 2: That the Mayor be, and he hereby is, authorized to accept the Grant, if <br />awarded, on behalf of the City of North Olmsted and to execute a contract, if required; and that <br />
