CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0.2011 - 31 <br />By: Council Members Orlowski, Kearney, Mahoney, Williamson & Brossard <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING AND DISCOURAGING THE STATE <br />LEGISLATURES' SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL S'S ATTACK ON <br />ORGANIZED LABOR, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, State Senator Shannon Jones (R- Springboro) introduced Senate Bill 5 on <br />February 1, 2011 and discussed it in the Senate's Committee on insurance, Commerce & Labor <br />to a crowd of over 3,800 public employee union members on Thursday, February 17, 2011, and <br />Friday, February 18, 2011; and <br />WHEREAS, the Bill aims at wiping out collective bargaining rights for all state and local <br />workers and would eliminate binding arbitration for local police officers and fire fighters; and <br />WHEREAS, other local public employee workers would no longer be able to bargain for <br />health insurance and teachers would have no say regarding seniority rights in school building <br />assignments. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUN?'Y OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the North Olmsted City Council is in full support of collective <br />bargaining rights for public employees at the state and local level, opposes Senate Bill 5 and <br />discourages support of Senate Bill 5; and <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety, and welfare, and for the <br />further reason it is necessary that this legislation go into effect immediately given the immanency <br />of final action to be taken on Senate Bill 5, and further, provided it receives the affirmative vote <br />of two-thirds of all members of the Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon <br />its passage and approval by the Mayor. <br />PASSED: ~'~C~r~l2 ~ .'
