CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0.2011 - 83 <br />By: Mayor Kennedy <br />A RESOL UTION A UTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY <br />TO MAKE APPLICATION FOR AN URBAN AREA WORKING GROUP <br />HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE <br />MAYOR TO ACCEPT FUNDING IF AWARDED AND TO EXECUTE <br />CONTRACTS IF NECESSARY, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Urban Area Working Group (UWAG) Homeland Security Grant has <br />funds available to assist emergency responders with upgrades to communications equipment in <br />order to comply with the 2013 FCC mandated narrow banding requirements for emergency radio <br />communications; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of North Olmsted Division of Police /Central Dispatch Center have <br />determined that such upgrades will costs $34,582.60; and <br />WHEREAS, no local matching funds are required; and <br />WHEREAS, it is accordingly the desire of this Council to authorize the Director of <br />Public Safety to make application for said grant, and to authorize the Mayor to accept the grant if <br />awarded and execute any necessary contract documents. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council does hereby authorize the Director of Public Safety to <br />prepare, sign and submit an application to the Urban Area Working Group /Department of <br />Homeland Security for participation in the UWAG Homeland Security Grant in order to obtain <br />funding for the acquisition of mandatory safety communications upgrades by 2013; and <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety, and welfare, and for the <br />further reason it is necessary that this legislation go into effect immediately in order that the City <br />may make a timely application for the grant funding; and further, provided it receives the <br />affirmative vote of two-thirds cif all members of the Council, it shall take effect and be in force <br />immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor. <br />n <br />i J' <br />PASSED: ~ ~ I <br />First Reading.' ~~~ (~ <br />Second Reading: <br />Third Reading: ~( ~ . ~ <br />Committee: ~~~ ,(~ <br />
