CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2012 - 29 <br />By: Mayor Kennedy <br />A RESOL UTION A UTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO APPL Y FOR THE <br />DEPARTMENT OF JIISTICE 2012 "COPS" GRANT AWARD IN THE <br />TOTAL AMOUNT OF UP TO TWO HUNDRED FIFTY THOLISAND <br />DOLLARS ($250,000.00) OVER THREE YEARS IN ORDER TO PROVIDE <br />75% REIMBURSEMENT FOR WAGES AND BENEFITS FOR UP TO TWO <br />POLICE OFFICERS AND, IF GRANTED, FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE <br />MAYOR TO ENTER INTO ANY AGREEMENTS WITH THE <br />APPROPRIATE FEDERAL OR STATE AGENCIES TO ACCEPT FUNDING <br />ON BEHALF OF THE CITY, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice has released the city, county and state <br />formula allocations for the 2012 (COPS) Grant Program that would provide funds for hiring of <br />up to two (2) new Police Officers, subject to minimum retention period of one (1) year, and allow <br />for Seventy-Five (75%) reimbursement of City expenditures over three years, not exceeding <br />$250,000.00; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of North Olmsted may be eligible for an individual allocation in the <br />amount of One Hundred Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars ($125,000.00) per officer over a three <br />year period under said Program or under other programs established by the Department of <br />Justice; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to authorize the Mayor to apply for this Grant <br />and to further authorize the Mayor to enter into an Agreement or Agreements, and/or execute <br />such other required documents, with the appropriate agency or agencies to accept said grant <br />funding. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council does hereby authorize the Mayor to apply for the 2012 <br />COPS grant and, if the application is or applications are granted, further authorizing the Mayor to <br />enter into an agreement or agreements, and/or execute such other required documents with the <br />appropriate agency or agencies, to accept all such said Grant funding on behalf of the City. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety, and welfare, and for the <br />further reason it is necessary that this legislation go into effect immediately in order that the City <br />may make a timely application for participation; and further, provided it receives the affirmative
