CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2012 - 32 <br />By: Mayor Kennedy <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO APPLY FOR THE 2012 <br />-2013 OHID ATTORNEY GENERAL DR UG IISE PREVENTION PROGRAM <br />GRANT AND, IF AWARDED, FIIRTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO <br />ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE APPROPRIATE STATE <br />AGENCY TO ACCEPT FUNDING ON BEHALF OF THE CITY, AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Attorney General's Office coordinates the Ohio Drug Use Prevention <br />grant with local police agencies and sheriffs. The program is a statewide anti-drug and violence <br />program that supports specially trained law enforcement officers who work with local public <br />schools to help students learn to make the right choices about drugs; and <br />WHEREAS, the Ohio Attorney General's Office announced that 201 local law <br />enforcement agencies across the state will receive over $3.3 million in funding for drug use <br />prevention programs; and <br />WHEREAS, the funds, if awarded, can defray the cost of a school resource officer's <br />salary by twenty-five percent (25%) if certain drug abuse / awareness programs are initiated; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of North Olmsted has had a successful school resource officer <br />program in place since 1996 and received $17,000.00 through this Grant program in 2011 - <br />2412; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to authorize the Mayor to apply for this Grant <br />and to further authorize the Mayor to enter into an Agreement and/or execute such other required <br />documents, with the appropriate State agency to accept said grant funding. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council does hereby authorize the Mayor or his authorized <br />representative to apply for the 2012-2013 Ohio Drug Use Prevention Program Grant and, if the <br />application is accepted, further authorizing the Mayor to enter into an Agreement and/or execute <br />such other required documents with the appropriate State agency to accept all such grant funding <br />on behalf of the City. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety, and welfare, and for the <br />further reason it is necessary that this legislation go into effect immediately in order that the City
