. .. r <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2012 - 49 <br />BY: Mayor Kennedy <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE TRAFFIC CONTROL FILE TO <br />PROVIDE FOR THE PLACEMENT OF A"YIELD HERE TO <br />PEDESTRIANS" SIGN LOCATED NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF <br />COUNTRY CLIIB BOULEVARD AND VICTORIA LANE IN THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Director of Public Safety, in conjunction with the Chief of Police and <br />the City Engineer, have found and determined by study and observation that pedestrians may, <br />from time to time, attempt to cross Country Club Boulevard at unspecified locations between <br />Lorain Road and Victoria Lane, rather than walk to the nearest crosswalk of said intersection; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, to enhance pedestrian safety, as part of the Country Club Boulevard <br />Streetscape Project, a new signalized midblock crosswalk is being constructed across Country <br />Club Boulevard, which is centered approximately 707 feet northerly from the intersection of <br />Victoria Lane and, additionally, transverse crosswalk line pavement markings shall be installed <br />to mark both edges of the crosswalk along with yield line pavement markings shall be installed <br />approximately 25 feet in advance of the crosswalk; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council, based upon these findings and recommendations, has <br />determined that it is in the best interest of the safety, health and welfare of the citizens of the City <br />of North Olmsted to place or install, at the crosswalk specified above, a"Yield Here to <br />Pedestrians" traffic control sign in accordance with the specifications and procedure of the Ohio <br />Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (OMUTCD); and <br />WHEREAS, Chapter 305 of the Traffic Code provides for the maintenance of the Traffic <br />Control File, which file can be amended only by ordinance duly adopted by this Council; <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND THE STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Police Department be and the same is hereby authorized and <br />directed to amend the Traffic Control File of the City of North Olmsted to indicate thereon the <br />installation of "Yield Here to Pedestrians" signage, as specified by OMUTCD, and located <br />across Country Club Boulevard, approximately 707 feet northerly from the intersection of <br />Victoria Lane. <br />SECTION 2: That the Director of Public Safety be and he is hereby authorized to install <br />new signs, as appropriate, at the crosswalk described in Section One above in accordance with
