CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2012 - 82 <br />BY: Council Member Mahoney <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 505.15 OF CHAPTER SOS <br />OF THE GENERAL OFFENSES CODE ENTITLED "ANIMALS <br />AND FOWL, ?? IN ORDER TO PROHIBIT THE FEEDING OF WILD <br />ANIMALS IN THE CITY, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY, AS <br />AMENDED. <br />WHEREAS, the feeding of wild animals may attract rodents, scavenger animals <br />and deer, thereby creating nuisance conditions in the City; and <br />WHEREAS, the proliferation of deer in urban areas creates a safety conflict with <br />the motoring public and creates nuisance conditions by virtue of, among other things, <br />increased potential for motor vehicle accidents; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council desires to amend Section 505.15 of the Codified <br />Ordinances in order to prohibit the feeding of wild animals in the City. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That Section 505.15 of Chapter 505 of the General Offenses <br />Code, which presently reads as follow: <br />505.15 KEEPING, MAINTAINING AND FEEDING OF WILD ANIMALS. <br />(a) Definition "Wild Animal". Any living wild or potentially dangerous <br />mammal, reptile, fowl, or other animal species which is not naturally tame or gentle, but <br />is of a wild nature or disposition and not customarily domesticated, and which because of <br />its characteristics may constitute a danger to human life or property if it escaped from <br />secure quarters. A wild animal shall include, but not be limited to: <br />(1) All poisonous snakes and constricting snakes exceeding six feet. <br />(2) Bears (Ursidae). <br />(3) Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus). <br />(4) Coyotes and coyotes-dog hybrids (Canids). <br />(5) Hyenas (Hyaemdes). <br />(6) Jaguars (Panthera onca). <br />(7) Leopards (Panthera pardus). <br />(8) Lions (Panethera leo). <br />(9) Lynxes (lynx). <br />(10) Pumas, also known as cougars, mountain lions and panthers (Felis <br />concolor). <br />(11) Primates (non-human), apes, monkeys, baboons, chimpanzees, <br />gibbons, gorillas, orangutans, siamangs. <br />(12) Tigers (Panthera tigris).
