CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2013 - 57 <br />By: Mayor Kennedy <br />A RESOL UTION A UTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO APPL Y <br />FOR AND FOR THE MAYOR TO ACCEPT, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, UP TO $33,252.00 IN GRANT FUNDING FROM THE <br />B UREA U OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE PARTNERSHIP IN ORDER TO <br />PURCHASE BULLET PROOF VESTS FOR NORTH OLMSED POLICE <br />OFFICERS IN 2013 AND 2014; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR <br />TO ENTER INTO ANY AGREEMENTS WITH THE APPROPRIATE <br />FEDERAL OR STATE AGENCIES TO ACCEPT FUNDING ON BEHALF <br />OF THE CITY, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Bureau of Justice Assistance manages law enfarcement granting funding <br />through its Bullet Proof Vest Partnership with state and local officials in order to provide up to <br />$33,252.00 in financial reimbursement to eligible agencies following the portion of qualified <br />bullet proof vests; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to authorize the Mayor to accept this grant <br />funding and to authorize the Mayor to execute necessary agreements or other required documents <br />with state or federal agencies to accept said grant funding, to apply for reimbursement and to <br />expend local funds necessary to satisfy any local matching or percentage of contribution <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council does hereby authorize the Chief of Police to apply for <br />Justice Assistance Bullet Proof Vest Partnership grant funding for 2013-2014 and, if the <br />application is or applications are granted, further authorizing the Mayor to enter into an <br />agreement or agreements, and/or execute such other required documents with the appropriate <br />agency or agencies to accept all such said grant funding and/or reimbursement request on behalf <br />of the City; and further authorizing the expenditure of local funds, as required by said Partnership <br />program, in order to meet the City's matching funds or percentage of contribution. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety, and welfare, and for the <br />further reason it is necessary that this legislation go into effect immediately in order that the City <br />may make a timely application for participation; and further, provided it receives the affirmative <br />vote of two-thirds of all members of the Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately <br />upon its passage and approval by the Mayor.
