CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0.2010 - 6 <br />By: Mayor Kennedy <br />A RESOL UTION A UTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE DIRECTOR OF <br />PLANNING TO MAKE APPLICATION ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED FOR A CERTIFIED LOCAL GOVERNMENT GRANT; <br />FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ACCEPT THE GRANT IF <br />AWARDED AND TO EXECUTE CONTRACTS WITH THE NATIONAL <br />PARK SERVICE AND / OR OHIO HISTORIC PRESERVATION OFFICE; <br />FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE USE OF CITY FUNDS AS THE LOCAL <br />MATCH; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the City of North Olmsted in 2009 obtained Certified Local Government <br />("CLG") status and as a result the City is now eligible to apply for CLG grants from the National <br />Park Service through the Ohio Historic Preservation Office; and <br />WHEREAS, Old Town Hall is on the National Register of Historic Places and is <br />therefore eligible to receive CLG grant funds for qualifying improvements; and <br />WHEREAS, in 2007 the City conducted an assessment of public facilities in North <br />Olmsted in order to ascertain whether such places were accessible to persons with disabilities; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the 2007 assessment documented violations of the Americans with <br />Disabilities Act ("ADA") at Old Town Hall; and <br />WHEREAS, ADA improvement projects at facilities on the National Register of Historic <br />Places qualify for CLG grants from the National Park Service through the Ohio Historic <br />Preservation Office; and <br />WHEREAS, the Director of Planning and Mayor Kennedy believe that these grant funds <br />should be utilized to make accessibility improvements to old Town Hall in order to conform the <br />building to the Americans with Disabilities Act; and <br />WHEREAS, the grant if awarded will cover 60% of the cost of the improvement project, <br />with the remaining 40% of the cost coming from the Building and Land Acquisition and <br />Improvement Fund; and <br />WHEREAS, it is accordingly the desire of this Council to authorize the Director of <br />Planning to make application for said CLG grant, and to authorize the Mayor to accept the grant <br />if awarded. <br />
