CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2010 - 42 <br />BY: Mayor Kennedy <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION OF THE <br />OLMSTED HISTORICAL SOCIETY FOR THE PRESERVE <br />AMERICA STEWARDS PROGRAM, AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, Preserve America is a national initiative whose goals are to create a <br />greater shared knowledge about the nation's past, to strengthen regional identities and <br />local pride, to increase local participation in preserving the country's cultural and natural <br />heritage assets, and to support the economic vitality of our communities; and <br />WHEREAS, Preserve America Stewards designation will be granted to eligible <br />entities with volunteer stewardship programs that involve individual volunteers working <br />toward the preservation, interpretation, and promotion of historic properties; and <br />WHEREAS, The Olmsted Historical Society's efforts at the Frostville Museum <br />make the organization an ideal candidate for Preserve America Stewards designation, <br />inasmuch as the Society has been largely responsible for local historic preservation <br />efforts, has encouraged youth as volunteers, has provided educational opportunities to the <br />general public about local history, and has succeeded in its mission in part due to its <br />strength of partnerships with the Cleveland Metroparks and the City of North Olmsted. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Mayor and Council of the City of North Olmsted, Ohio, <br />do hereby support and recommend the application of the Olmsted Historical Society in its <br />effort to secure the Preserve America Stewards designation. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency <br />measure immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and <br />welfare, and further for the reason that it is necessary that this Resolution go into effect <br />immediately in order to show support before the nomination deadline of June 1, 2010, <br />and further provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of <br />Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by <br />the Mayor. <br />PASSED: y <br />First Reading: Y~~ ~(o <br />Second Reading• ~ ~jjp <br />Third Reading: ~~~~~/ <br />Committee: ~~~~~~ ,~., '~ <br />
