CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0.2010 - 60 <br />By: Mayor Kennedy <br />A RESOL UTION A UTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY <br />ON BEHALF OF THE CITY TO APPLY FORA 2010 ASSISTANCE TO <br />FIREFIGHTERS GRANT FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECEIVING FUNDS <br />TO OBTAIN EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING FOR THE DIVISION OF <br />FIRE; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR, IF THE APPLICATION <br />IS GRANTED, TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE <br />APPROPRIATE AGENCY TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT FUNDS, AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Homeland Security has invited application for the FY <br />2010 Assistance to Firefighters Grants ("AFG") Program. The application period began on April <br />26, 2010 and ends on May 28, 2010; and <br />WHEREAS, by and through grant funds, the North Olmsted Division of Fire desires <br />command and control training as well as additional or replacement equipment, including, but not <br />limited to, a fire apparatus, an ambulance, bunker gear and turnout coats and pants; and <br />WHEREAS, AFG grant awards aim to enhance response capabilities and to more <br />effectively protect the health and safety of the public with respect to fire and other hazards. The <br />grants enable local fire departments and emergency medical services organizations to obtain <br />training, conduct first responder health and safety programs, and buy equipment and response <br />vehicles; and <br />WHEREAS, a 10% matching fund on the part of the City will be required; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to authorize the Director of Public Safety on <br />behalf of the City to apply for the Department of Homeland Security FY 2010 Assistance to <br />Firefighters Grant to purchase additional equipment and training; to further authorize the Mayor <br />to accept the Grant, if awarded, and to execute a contract if required; and to finally authorize the <br />Director of Public Safety to execute all other documents necessary to effectuate receipt of the <br />Grant; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Director of Public Safety be and is hereby authorized to apply for <br />the Department of Homeland Security FY 2010 Assistance to Firefighters Grant. <br />SECTION 2: That the Mayor be, and he hereby is, authorized to accept the Grant, if <br />awarded, on behalf of the City of North Olmsted and to execute a contract, if required; and that <br />
