., r <br />Appendix 8-14 <br />EQUIPMENT OPERATOR <br />Nature of Work <br />This is manual labor in the performance of semi-skilled and limited <br />skilled work of a physically demanding nature. <br />Work involves performing manual work of a semi-skilled nature which <br />does not require speci a 1 previous training or experience . The work can be <br />performed under the immediate direction of Superintendent, Assistant Super- <br />intendent-Systems, or the Systems Foreman. Constant supervision is not <br />always available for routine and repetitive tasks which can be carried on <br />without difficulty once they are learned. Automotive and power equipment <br />will be operated. <br />Examples of Work <br />Participates in the work of a crew engaged in cleaning, dragging, and <br />nodding of storm and sanitary sewers; also the cleaning of catch basins. <br />Operates a variety of special standard sewer maintenance equipment; such <br />as, Bucket machines, Rodders, Sanavac, inspection equipment, and other auto- <br />motive equipment as required. <br />As required, keeps records of al l work performed; reports need for <br />materials and equipment to the Systems Foreman when necessa ry. <br />Work can be characterized by assignment to rotating shifts when needed <br />as ordered by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent-Systems. <br />Be subject to 24-hour ccall for emergency purposes. <br />Performs related work as required . <br />Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills <br />Ability to understand and follow oral and w ritten instructions. <br />Considerable knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, methods, and <br />modern techniques commonly used in public works and sewer maintenance <br />activities. <br />-Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions necessary for <br />sewer cleaning operations. <br />Ab i 1 i ty to operate equipment assigned to the Wastewater Treatment <br />Division. <br />Ability to participate in the work of sewer cleaning and performing <br />varied tasks and to obtain effective results. <br />Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with <br />supervision, other employees, and the general public. <br />l <br /> <br />~~ <br />
