w <br /> <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 77-73 <br />BY: Mrs. Saringer <br />A RESOLUTION URGING THE GENERAL <br />ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO TO <br />DEFEAT H.J.R. BILL NO. 1 WHICH IF <br />PASSED WOULD ABOLISH THE MUNICIPAL <br />COURTS IN THE STATE OF OHIO, AND <br />DECLARING AN EP~IERGENCY . <br />WHEREAS, The House Judiciary Committee is now considering <br />a bill which would abolish the municipal court system in the State of <br />Ohio, and <br />WHEREAS, the municipal court system is vital to the <br />dispensing of immediate justice to the people of the State of Ohio, and <br />WHEREAS, the municipal courts are a vital part of the <br />responsibility of local government to serve its citizens efficiently and <br />effectively. <br />NOW, THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION l: That this Council does hereby make a matter <br />of record its opposition to H.J.R. Bill No. 1 which would abolish the <br />municipal court system in the State of Ohio, and strongly recommends and <br />urges the General Assembly of the State of Ohio to take any and all .actions <br />necessary to defeat said Bill. <br />SECTION 2: That this Council hereby requests that the <br />committee members of the House Judiciary Committee refrain from recommending <br />the abolishment of the municipal courts of the State of Ohio. <br />SECTION 3: That the Clerk of this Council be, and she is <br />hereby directed to send certified copies of this Resolution to the Clerk <br />of the Ohio House of Representatives, the Clerk of the Ohio Senate, State <br />Representative James Betts, State Representative Rocco Colonna, State Senator <br />Anthony J. Celebreze, Jr. and Governor James Rhodes. <br />SECTION 4: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an <br />emergency measure immediately necessary for the preservation of the public <br />health, safety, and welfare, and for the further reason that the municipal <br />courts are a vital part of the responsibility of local government to serve its <br />citizens efficiently and effectively, and further provided it receives the <br />affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members elected to Council, it shall take <br />effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor. <br />PASSED: April 19, 1977 <br />ATTEST: <br />/~"~c-C/ ~ ~/ <br />NORA T.
