? <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 79- 54 <br />I <br />?ILL <br />BY : 9? <br />A RESOLUTION ENDORSING CONGRESSD'1AN MOTTL'S BILL HR 2215 <br />TO REPEAL A PORTION OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY ANIENDMENT OF <br />1977) REDUCING BENEFITS TO CERTAIN SPOUSES AND SURVIVING <br />SPOUSES, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />IVFEREAS, the Congress of the United States is responsible to protect <br />the rights of the citizens of the United States, and <br />WHEREA.S, Congress has adopted an Act entitled the "Social Secuirty <br />Amendments of 1977" wherein certain benefits previously payable to certain <br />spouses are reduced if the spouse is receiving retirement benefits from a <br />public retirement system, and <br />WHEREAS, this provision works an ineQuity on married couples where one <br />is subject to Social Security coverage and the other is subject to a public <br />retirement system. <br />NOU7, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLUED BY THE COUNCIL OF Tf-IE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council is on record as endorsing the repeal of <br />that portionof Section 334 of the Social Secuirty Amendment of 1977, which <br />reduces the social security benefits for spouses and surviving spouses <br />receiving government, state or municipal pensions. <br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council of the City of North Olmsted is <br />hereby directed to cause a certified copy of this Resolution to be delivered <br />to Cuyahoga City Ma.yors and City Managers Association, Senator John H. Glenn, <br />Senator Howard Metzenbawn, Congressman Ronald M. Mottl, Congressman N7a.ry Rose <br />Oakar, Congressman Charles A.
