CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 74 - ~p7 <br />BY: ~~~ v.~j ~ <br />A RESOLUTION CALLING UPON THE HOUSE OF <br />REPRESENTATIVES TO PASS SEN~iTE BILL 166 <br />WHICH INCREASES THE INCOME BRACKETS OF <br />THE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION BY $1,000.00, <br />AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of North Olmsted is fully <br />aware of the plight of Senior Citizens in coping with the ever- <br />.. increasing price spiral, and <br />WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States has recognized the <br />need of society's elderly and has therefore increased Social Security <br />benefits, and <br />WHEREAS, this increase in Social Security income will deny many <br />persons of the benefit of a fair Homestead Exemption by pushing them <br />into a higher income, and <br />WHEREAS, the Ohio Senate has recognized the need and has passed <br />Senate Bill 166; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION l: That the Council of the City of North Olmsted calls <br />upon the Ohio House of Representatives to act favorably on Senate <br />Bill 166 and submit it to the Governor for prompt signing before large <br />numbers of Ohio's elderly are penalized. <br />SECTION 2: That this ordinance is hereby declared to be an <br />emergency measure immediately necessary for the preservation of the <br />public health, safety and welfare, and for the further reason that <br />the State Legislature is now considering the Bill and the Council <br />must show its support in order to protect the retired citizens of <br />North Olmsted, and further provided it receives the affirmative <br />vote of two-thirds of all members elected to Council, it shall take <br />effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by <br />the Mayor. <br />ATTEST <br />y~ , ~ <br />NORA T.
