<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO . 7 5 - ~~~ <br />BY: <br />A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF HOUSE BILL 117 WHICH <br />GIVES TO MARRIED COUPLES THE OPTIONS OF FILING <br />JOINT OR SEPARATE OHIO INCOME TAX RETURNS, AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the previous administration did not fulfill .its promise <br />to the people of Ohio to correct the Income Tax Laws of the State of <br />Ohio, by revising the sections of the Ohio Revised Code to allow <br />married taxpayers to file their Ohio Income Tax either jointly or <br />separately regardless of the way they filed. their Federal Tax Returns; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, many North Olmsted families currently have both husband. <br />and wife working to support the family unit in this day of inflation, <br />recession, and near depression; and, <br />WHEREAS, it would be to the financial advantage of many North <br />Olmsted families to have the option of filing their Ohio Income Tax <br />individually or separately, regardless of how they filed their <br />Federal Income Tax Return; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: The Council of the City of North Olmsted go on <br />record. in support of House Bill 117 which would give all married. tax- <br />payers the option of filing either joint or separate State Income <br />Tax Returns. <br />SECTION 2: The Clerk of Council shall forward copies of this <br />resolution to all members of both the Ohio House of. Representatives <br />and Ohio Senate from Cuyahoga County (specifically the Honorable <br />Rocco J. Colonna, James Betts, Gerald Stano, and Anthony J. Celebrezze, <br />Jr,); Speaker of the House of Representatives, Vernal G. Riffe, Jr.; <br />Majority Leader of the Senate, Oliver Ocasek; Lieutenant Governor, <br />Richard. F. Celeste; and. the Honorable Governor of Ohio, James A. <br />Rhodes. <br />SECTION 3: This resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency <br />measure, immediately necessary for the preservation of the public <br />peace, health, and safety of the City, and for the further rea"son <br />that it is immediately needed to make all State Legislators and State <br />Officials aware of the necessity for tax breaks to married couples <br />raising and supporting their families; and further provided it receives <br />the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members elected to Council, <br />it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage <br />and. approval by the Mayor. <br />PASSED: <br />it <br />,~ <br />ATTEST: <br />~/ <br />/s" ~~~-~''"~ <br />NORA T.
