MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO <br />JULY 7, 1959 - 8:15 P.M. <br />Present were Paul J. Gareau, Mayor; Ralph A. Hazelton, President of Council; <br />Evelyn Hinkel, Eddie Hixson, Wm. H. Kramer, Mary Alice Lynch, Bruce MacDonald <br />and Jatues T. Wilson. <br />Also present were Lloyd E. Barnes, Service Director; Thomas J. Raleigh, <br />Safety Director; C. J. Oviatt, Solicitor; Alex Kanareff, Engineer; and <br />E. PfI. Christman, Clerk. <br />Absent: Francis J. O'Neill, and Alice Dobbins Rhine, Treasurer, <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of Council, June 16th, were approved <br />as read. <br />The minutes of the adjourned meetings of June 25th, and June 30th, were <br />also approved as read. <br />The Mayor expressed gratitude and thanks to the Merchants Association of <br />the Great Northern Shopping Center for spear-heading the mosquito control <br />program for the City in their donation of $1,000,00 toward the purchase <br />of equipment. The equipment will be on display at the Shopping Center <br />July 9th through the 11th and residents can make their contributions <br />during this campaign. <br />The Safety Director reported 55 building permits were issued during the <br />month of June, at a total valuation cf $635,270.00. <br />The Director also reported activities of tY~e Police Department and the <br />Dog Ylarden for the month of June, <br />A meeting with representatives of Parkview was held, regarding the proposal <br />of entering into a contract for Fire protection. The Fire Chief was <br />instructed to investigate and report in writing in time for an additional <br />meeting with the Safety Committee prior to legislation. <br />A communication was read from Ohio Shores Construction Company, enclosing <br />a check in the amount of $180.00 as bond for 60 ft. of sidewalk on Ambour <br />Drive. They also advised the remaining sidewalk had been completed in <br />Subdivisions Nos. 1 and 2, and requested action for release of their <br />bonds by July 25th. <br />The Engineer reported they had completed corrections, with the exception <br />of raising three or four boxes. The first two subdivisions are ready <br />for dedication, and will hold of.f with an O.K., until the boxes are <br />located. <br />In regards to the planting of trees by developers, the Streets, Sewers <br />and Ditdh Committee is to pursue the furthering of the tree planting <br />program, and the Planning Commission should be the first to advise <br />developers. <br />The rlayor reported the Jaycees had requested participation by the City <br />Officials for a Donkey Baseball Game scheduled for July 19th. <br />Mr. :~iixson inquired relative to the situation on Sweetbriar. ^he :iervi.ce <br />Director reported communications had been sent to the bonding company <br />to get the matter settled. <br />The Solicitor reported he had received a call relative to the sale of <br />the Sweetbriar Subdivision. If it is bought, the purchaser will go forward <br />and deposit with the City ;12,000.00 cash to put the road in and sidewalks. <br />If it is not sufficient, an additional amount will be deposited. The <br />name of the purchaser was not disclosed; however, he was concerned about <br />the difficulties with Monson-Williams becoming part of the purchase. <br />The Engineer pointed out one item to be considered by the prospective <br />buyer, and that is the fact that paving goes just over the ditch, and <br />
