MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO <br />October 20, 1964 <br />8: 0 2 P. M, <br />Present: Mayor Ralph Christman; President of Council Francis J. 0'Neill; Henry <br />Caster; Jack Foltz; Virginia Hodgins; James Leonard; Dewey Limpert; A. L. Mangani; <br />John West, <br />Also present: J. Bruce Kitchen, Director of Law; W. L. Gerlach, Director of <br />Finance; Richard Labas, City Engineer; Margaret West, Clerk of Council. <br />Minutes of the last meeting were corrected as follows: On Page 2, the fifth <br />paragraph, strike out the last sentence"They also recommend acceptance of Rose- <br />tree #2 dedication of streets." On Page 5, the last paragraph, add "because <br />the affirmative vote lacked the necessary majority for suspension of the rules". <br />On Page 6, strike out "and declaring an emergency" at the end of the paragraphs <br />on Ordinance Nos. 64-231, -232, -233 and -234, On the first page, the last <br />paragraph, add "for 1964" after the word°'completed:' The minutes were then <br />approved as corrected, <br />The Mayor proclaimed October 31st UNICEF Day, He also presented a letter from <br />the City Engineer stating that the North Park Subdivision sewage treatment <br />plant had been inspected, and recommending acceptance by the City, <br />On behalf of the Safety-Service Director, who was not present, the Mayor requested <br />authority to advertise for bids for tires and tire recapping, <br />Niayor Christman also reported that International Salt Company was the successful <br />bidder for salt at $8,40 per ton, that Brooklyn Cinder Sales was ;awarded the <br />contract for cinders at $2,00 per yard, and that International Harvester delivered <br />the four-wheel drive truck on Friday, October 16th, <br />Mr, Labas reported he has approved the plat and plans for Bretton Ridge No. 3 <br />and has also approved the plat for the Southern Avenue extension west to <br />McKenzie Road. He also reported that Council has been furnished with copies <br />of his report°to the Planning Committee on. the Great Northern Boulevard water <br />main. <br />Mrs. Hodgins reported the Safety Committee met on October 19th, They resolved <br />to ask the Law Director if the following could be added to Sec. 141.05 of the <br />Codified Ordinance: If a member of the Safety Department accumulates more than <br />two weeks time off in any calendar year, the time in excess of two weeks must <br />be used by his anniversary date, and at the convenience of the department chief. <br />The Safety Committee also recommend that firemen should be paid for servicing <br />fire hydrants; that the Service Director should direct the City Engineer to <br />contact the Board of Education regarding new roads to service the three new <br />schools, St. Brendan's, the proposed Junior High between Dover and Canterbury <br />and the proposed school in the new cluster development. They further recommend <br />that the new school flasher lights should be farther apart. They also ask <br />why the traffic light has not been changed from St. Richard's to Country Club <br />Boulevard, and whether it would work out to paint the crosswalks green. <br />With regard to the last suggestion, the Engineer pointed out that that it is <br />possible to get colored asphalt, since the experience of the bus drivers in <br />Fairview where the crosswalks were painted was that the streets were very <br />slippery. <br />
