Copies of the report will be furnished.
Mr. Albert Germ, 23406 Alexander, presented Council wfth a petition from resi-
dents of the area, requesting that they be allowed to install four-foot
sidewalks, to conform to those existing in the area, rather than five-foot as
called for by City specifications. The Clerk read the petition.
ObJections to the five-foot requirement were voiced by Mr. Germ, Mr. Edward
Evcic, 23216 Alexander, and Mr. Jack Dean, 23547 Alexander, and a lengthy dis-
cussion of the proper solution of the problem ensued. Engineer Labas stated
that under the present ordinance there is no choice but to put in five-foot
walks. Law Director Kitchen also emphasized that the ordinance reads "five-foot
sidewalks", and Council is bound by the ordinance and can make no exceptions.
Most of the councilmen expressed a desire to see the area in question, and Mrs.
Hodgins made a motion that the time for obtaining a sidewalk permit be extended
on the Alexander Road sidewalks to July 19th. Motion was seconded by Mr. Limpert.
After further discussion, the motion and second were withdrawn. Mr. Caster
requested that members of Council and his committee take a look at the area,
and he will poll members by the end of the week as their final decision in the
matter. Mr. Germ will be notified of the decision reached, and was requested
to not i fythe res i dents o? the d'et l S 1 o0, ' -
Mr. Robert Burns, 6151 Sherwood Drive, read a letter addressed to Councilman
John West regarding the proposed motor access road to the new school property.
Included was a statement of objections signed by 158 residents of the area.
Councilman West pointed out that the decision to open up this access road was
not made by Council, but that of the School Board, and he advised Mr. Burns and
the others to contact the School Board immediately with their objections.
Council is meeting with the School Board on June 9th, but since this is a meeting
requested by the School Board, it was Mr. West's suggestion that they ask the
Board whether their objections could be heard at that time.
Mr. Kenneth Oehmig, 23860 Ambour, asked if something could be done about cleaning
out and cutting the weeds at the skating pond in the Clague Playground, and was
informed by the Safety-Service Director that it would be taken care of the next
day.
Mr. Jack Dean of Alexander Road asked about the sidewalks permits, and the reason
for the high cost, which was explained to him by Mayor Christman.
Mr. Raphael Frangella, 3019 Clague asNced'about the notice he had received to install
sidewalks on the side line of his property which is 270 feet in length.
