Council Minutes of 11/7/84 -8-
Mr. O'Grady reported that he has been receiving many, many calls regarding the
leaf pickup schedule. He is being told that when they call City Hall for informa-
tion, they are being told to contact their councilman. Can this information be
placed on the community bulletin board or the local media so the residents would
have some idea of the way the leaf pickup is scheduled. Service Director Corrigan
stated that at first the residents were advised of the date the leaves in their
area would be picked up; when they fell behind on the schedule due to a storm or
equipment breakdown, City Hall was inundated with calls. Last year, the Service
Department tried to follow the garbage routes. When they started to fall behind on
this schedule, City Hall was again bombarded with calls. This year, the Service
Director has stated that there will be three complete sweeps of the City. The first
cycle is completed and the second cycle is completed down in the Clague Road area.
Pickup started on the east end of town and works basically by ward. There are
going to be some phone calls but in Mr. Corrigan's opinion there have been a lot
less calls this year. Service Department is guaranteeing that there will be three
complete pickups in front of everyone's home if the weather continues to hold.
Mr. Corrigan also addressed the issue of the street repair program. Some aspects
of street repair were new and more funds were expended in certain areas than were
anticipated. The net result has been good for the City. One of the prime purposes
of government, relative as far as the Service Department is concerned, is public
safety on city roads and highways; this is a high priority in the Service Department.
Mr. Corrigan is trying to advocate and move a little bit of additional money into
service. Recommendations were made in August; perhaps he did not work as closely as
he should have with the Finance Committee and some members of Council. Is proud of
the work product of the Service Department; is proud of the project which was under-
taken; will certainly work with Council to resolve some of the problems of
legislative/administrative liaison.
There being no further business, President Boehmer adjourned the Council Meeting at
10:00 P.M.
6.
Drente E.
