<br />FEBRUARY 5, 1985
<br />Present: President James Boehmer, Councilmen Bierman, O'Grady, Petrigac,
<br />Rademaker, Saringer, Tallon, [ailamosky.
<br />Also present: Law Director Michael Gareau, Clerk of Council Florence Campbell.
<br />Meeting was called to order by President Boehmer at 8:25 P.M., in Council Chambers,
<br />5200 Dover Center Road.
<br />Members of the audience were invited to loin Members of Council in reciting the
<br />Pledge of Allegiance.
<br />Minutes of the Regular Council ?Meeting of January 16, 1985, were approved.
<br />Minutes of the Special Council Meeting of January 30, 1985, were approved.
<br />President Boehmer apologized f_or the long Caucus Meeting which delayed the start
<br />of this evening's Council Meeting.
<br />In the absence of Mayor Swietyniowski, Service Director Corrigan reported:
<br />1) Announced the following mayoral appointees to .the Charter Review Commission,
<br />subject to Council's approval: [ailliam Lackey, Doctor Jean Bartoo, Donald Fraser,
<br />Roger Alexander, John Eustace, Patricia Bahas, Dan Dufala, Stanley Usher and
<br />Marcia Hughes. Following Council's confirmation, Mayor will schedule an organ-
<br />izational meeting and notify all members of the time and place.
<br />2) In December, a Strategic Transportation Planning and Study Committee, which in-
<br />cluded members of the administration, Council, schools, Planning Commission, Commun-
<br />ity Improvement Corporation, ministerial association, Chamber of Commerce, NOACA
<br />and Biskind Development Company, was formed for the purpose of studying the future
<br />of transportation in North Olmsted. Biskind Development Company will fund the study
<br />which will continue for a period of approximately eighteen months. Organizational
<br />meeting was held on January 19th; general discussion of future developments that
<br />will impact city traffic, such as Christ the King Community Industrial Park, as
<br />well as smaller developments, were discussed. When the committee finishes its caork,
<br />the plan will not be complete and there will be no final document. The plan will
<br />change as conditions change and will offer options. *4a.yor will continue to report
<br />on the study as it moves forward and would encourage Council Members to sit in on
<br />the meetings as observers and provide input through Council's representatives,
<br />Mrs. Petrigac and Mrs. Saringer. Next meeting will be Saturday, February 16th, at
<br />9 A. M. in the Great Northern Mall Community Room.
<br />3) The proposed budget for the year 1985 will be submitted at the next regular Council
<br />Meeting on February 19, 1985.
<br />Law Director Gareau reported: 1) Tomorrow morning, will be taking the deposition of
<br />Fortune Valore with respect t4G~ the house moving case. Had filed interrogatories in
<br />the Ben Wright case several months ago; has now filed a motion for sanctions with re-
<br />spect to that case for failure to answer the interrogatories.
<br />2) With respect to the Ron Zurawski unemployment compensation appeal, it was thrown
<br />out by the Court of Common Pleas but the State of Ohio has appealed that and Law
<br />Director is filing a cross appeal on behalf of the City of North Olmsted.
<br />3) With respect to a new case, Kennedy versus the City of North Olmsted and Cleveland,
<br />in Federal Court, had asked Director Corrigan to check and see if the City had in-
<br />surance; there is no insurance coverage. City is being sued for $200,000 because of
<br />an incident that took place eleven years ago. Law Director has filed an answer in
<br />this case and a pre-trial hearing is set for a week from now.
