Council Minutes of 10/6/87 -8-

Miscellaneous Business:
Mrs. Saringer announced that a Public Hearing has been scheduled for October
20th, at 7 P.M., with respect to Ordinance No. 87-76.
Mr. Bohlmann scheduled a Legislative Committee Meeting for Monday, October 12th,
at 8:30 P.M., for the specific purpose of looking at the building fees, especially
regarding aluminum siding and roofing; requested attendance by Building Commissioner.
Mr. McKay discussed an article that appeared in the Chronicle on October 5th, 1987,
in which Service Director Noble was quoted as saying he hoped Council would stick
to the city street plan rather than repairing roads on the basis of politics. Mr.
McKay stated that the concrete work done last year was directed by the administra-
tion - not by Council. Mr. Noble also was quoted as saying "Virginia. was a waste
of money; it probably gets twenty cars a day". Mr. McKay stated that he feels those
twenty home on Virginia are important even if the administration doesn't. Another
quote from Mr. Noble was the residents of Sunset Oval are squeaky wheels". Mr.
McKay feels they have every right to come to city council and complain without
being degraded by the administration's remarks; requests the Mayor to apologize
to the residents of Virginia and Sunset Oval unless she shares the same opinion
as the Service Director.
Mr. O'Grady asked the Mayor to please sit down with her administration and re-
discuss the leaf pick up program to see if they could find some sort of a solution
to the leaf problem. Is not asking for an answer tonight; would like it to be
seriously discussed again and reported back at the next council meeting.
Mr. McKay reported receipt of a letter from a lady who was struck by a car at the
intersection of Great Northern and Brookpark Road. There are no cross walks there.
Asked that the appropriate committee of council discuss this area. and evaluate
the situation. Mayor Petrigac commented that the administration is aware of this
situation and has been trying to figure out a way to regulate the timing on the
lights and are currently looking into a solution for this intersection.
President Saringer also commented that driving on Lorain Road, at night, in a
rain storm, she had difficulty in maintaining the proper lane since she was un-
able to see any striping. Why haven't the streets. been restriped this year?
Mayor responded there was no money available to have someone come in and stripe
the streets; Service Director advised that the cross walks were striped by hand
this year; does not have the funds to contract out for street striping. Mr.
Wilamosky asked Mr. Noble to provide the Finance Committee with an inventory
with respect to painting supplies and equipment, before the next Finance Committee
Meeting, so the committee could evaluate what the needs are.
President Saringer also commented that the lighting on Brookpark Road, from Great
Northern down to Clague, is very poor; requested the administration to appeal to
the State for better illumination.
The agenda being completed and there being no further business, President Saringer
adjourned the Council Meeting at 9:15 P.M.
orence E. Campbell, erk of Council
~•
J t A. Saringer, Preside of Council
