Has recommended that the
$3.0,000 fund, which had been set aside for this project, be allotted to the
Maple Ridge Road Project.
2) Since there have been several requests for searchlights, to be used for
promotional. events, would like council to join in requesting City Planner
Hill to reevaluate that portion of the. city code.
3) Has proclaimed October as North Olmsted Recycling Month; the Ohio Depart-
ment of Natural Resources is encouraging its employees to recycle office
paper, newspapers, aluminum cans and glass bottles and jars. Landfills are
not only becoming scarce but are also becoming very expensive. North Olmsted
currently has a newspaper recycling program, which was begun many years ago,
and has recently placed containers near all pop machines to encourage re-
cycling of aluminum cans. These cans will be forwarded to the Fire Department
and all money earned through recycling will be donated to the burn center.
4) Income Tax Collection for the month of August, 1988, amounted to $458,974,
which is an increase over August, 1987, of $143,521. The collection for the
first eight months of 1988 now shows an increase of $162,081 or 6.4~ over 1987;
this is equal to the budgeted increase anticipated by the administration.
5) Has received a letter from a number of residents urging that the Recreation
Center remain open.
6) September 17th through the 23rd is Constitution Week.
Law Director Gareau reported:. 1) The Drotter Case, dealing with a flooded base-
ment problem, was tried in Rocky River Municipal Court last week. Although the
'~' dollar amount sought was insignificant, the principle of having someone success-
fully file a lawsuit against the city for storm water damage, was very signifi-
cant and this case was treated very seriously.
