'i
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
JUNE 21, 1988
Present: President Janet Saringer, Councilwoman Bahas, Councilmen
Boehmer, Bohlmann, O'Grady, Talton, Wilamosky.
Also present: Mayor Yvonne Petrigac, Law Director. Michael Gareau, Finance
Director Edward Boyle, Clerk of Council Florence Campbell.
Absent: Councilman McKay.
Meeting was called to order by President Saringer at 8:05 P.M., in Council
Chambers, 5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio.
Members of the audience were invited to join Members of Council in reciting
the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Minutes of the regular Council Meeting of June 7, 1988, were approved.
Minutes of the special Council Meeting of June 9, 1988, were approved, as
follows: Mr. Wilamosky moved to amend June 9th minutes;. Ordinance Nos.
88-67, 88-68, 88-69 and 88-70 to read, "introduced by Mr. Wilamosky on
behalf of Mayor Petrigac and the entire Council", second by Mr. Ta11on,
unanimously approved.
Minutes of the special Council Meeting of June 14, 1988, were approved.
President Saringer announced that Ordinance No. 88-61 had been removed .from
tonight's agenda; Ordinance No. 88-37 had been added to the agenda and is
on third reading; suspension of the rule requiring three readings will be
requested for Ordinance Nos. 88-64 and 88-77.
Mayor Petrigac reported: 1) Six community mayors have been meeting to discuss
and deal with waste disposal as well as landfill. One of the major concerns
has been passage of House Bill 592 which will have a direct affect on cities
such as North Olmsted. In 1987, the city dumped 48,136 cubic yards of
garbage which totalled 16,045 tons. H.B. 592 will increase cost of dumping
by $1.25 per ton and add about $20,000 to what the city is now paying. Some
of the mayors have sent night letters to Governor Celeste asking him not to
sign this bill. The mayors are collectively trying to come up with ideas
to help alleviate the waste disposal problem.
2) Administration will be meeting with the Metropolitan Parks Board and residents
in the Wellesley area to deal with the mosquito problem. The feeling is that
Metro Parks could do other things than just spraying; will notify council when
a meeting date has been set.
3) Law Director Gareau, Service Director, Ken Mues and Tom Terbrack from the
Bus Line, and Mayor met again with RTA and Maple Heights; are coming a little
bit closer to establishing a memorandum of understanding and hope to have it
before council some time in July.
i
