Council Minutes of 2/19/91 <br />LEGISLATI~T (CONTINUID) <br />Reso ution No. 91- introduced by Mr. McKay was given its second <br />reading. A resolution authorizing the Director of Public Service to <br />advertise for and accept bids for the improvement of Sunset Oval <br />pavement replacement, Phase II, from the Sunset Oval intersection, <br />westerly and southerly to the southerly portion of Phase I, and from the <br />intersection easterly to Columbia Road, as detailed in the <br />specifications an file, anti authorizing the Mayor to contract for same, <br />and declaring an emergency. Mr. Nashar moved for suspension of the <br />rules requiring three readings arxi referral to cotsmittee; second by Mrs. <br />Babas; passed unanimously. Mr. Nashar moved for adoption; second by <br />Mrs. Beringer; passed unanimously. Resolution No. 91-42 adopted. <br />Resolution No. 91-43 was introduced grad placed on first reading by Mayor <br />Boyle an behalf of himself and the entire Council. A resolution <br />supporting a local Operation:0asi_s, a comrninity-based program offering <br />services and support to families of military personnel serving in the <br />Gulf War. Mrs. Baha.s moved for suspension of the rules requiring three <br />readings; second by Mrs. Beringer; passed unanirno~xsly. Mrs. Babas moved <br />for adoption; second by Mrs. Beringer; passed nnAn;mously. Resolution <br />No. 91-43 adopted. <br />Ordinance No. 91-44 was introduced and placed on first reading by Mr. <br />Nashar on behalf of Mr. O'Grady. An ardinance establishing the <br />organization of the Police Division of the Department of Fublic Safety <br />and declaring an emergency. <br />Mr. McKay moved to reconsider Ordinance No. 91-3; second by Mr. Nashar; <br />passed unanimously. The reconsideration was necessary since the <br />increase to 33 firemen was an t to the ardi.nance. Council <br />agreed the parts of the ordinance affected by the amendment were as <br />follows: <br />The last "Whereas" would now read: "Whereas, it is the desire of the <br />Administration and Council at this time to increase the complement of <br />firemen from 28 to 33 firemen and to, at the same time, develop plans in <br />the future to add additional firefighter personnel to the complement of <br />the Fire Department." <br />Section 1, b, would naw read: "The Fire Chief shall also be in charge <br />of a general duty uniform roster, which shall consist of one Assistant <br />Chief, four Captains, six Lieutenants, and 33 Firemen." <br />Section 2 would now read: That the organization of the Fire Department <br />shall consist of not less 'than twenty (20) or more than thirty-three <br />(33) sworn full-time employees who are certified Paramedics." <br /> <br />6 <br />•- - <br />E <br />
