Marie Gallo
From: Cody Eaton [cody@galeswestlake.com]
Sent: Tuesday, September 07, 2010 10:09 AM
To: gallom@North-Olmsted.com
Subject: Members of the North Olmsted City Councils
To All the Members of the North Olmsted City Council:
I am no longer a resident of North Olmsted but lived there for more than seven years,
however, I got my two wonderful dogs from a breeder who is currently residing in your city.
Not only is she a wonderful breeder who takes care of her dogs and property, she is an
asset to your community as a professional. And define breeder...) think of someone who
is AKC registered, who has licensed their kennel name, who breeds one specific breed.
Are you including the "backyard breeders" who mix breeds to turn a buck? Are you talking
about the breeders who have litter, after litter...sometimes 4-7 a year? Because my
breeder never has more than 1 or 2 litters a year. She is responsible. She breeds to better
the breed. She is ethical. She has a waiting list of people who would love to receive one of
her pups. Stop and think before you pass an ordinance like this. You may be forcing good
breeders and hard working individuals who pay their property taxes out of your city.
What is this ordinance being based on? How many complaints have there been? Is this
because of one "breeder"? Is this another case of the squeaky wheel gets the oil? With
so many things going on in North Olmsted like problems in schools (which is why we
moved out), the state of the roads, and the closing of so many businesses; why is this an
emergency? I feel as if you have your priorities out of line. Why punish all because one or
two have created a problem? Why not instead put into place a violations code, if a breeder
violates said ordinances then they will be forced into a situation of having one pair of
breeding dogs per acre. The fact that you are doing this to someone after they have
purchased property in your city is ridiculous. Many of them can't just buy more acres to
meet the required acreage to have more than one breeding female. Please don't punish
good people because a few are irresponsible. When did government...local, state and
federal decide that they have to run the citizens paying their salaries lives? If this passes, I
will not consider moving to North Olmsted again. I don't want to live somewhere where this
kind of ordinance is considered an emergency when I know there are very real problems.
Sincerely,
Aleasha Eaton
9/7/2010
