_~
Council Minutes of OS-03-2011
Councilwoman Williamson, Chairwoman of the Public Safety, Health & Welfare
Committee:
The Public Safety Committee met Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Present were
committee members Williamson, Mahoney and Schumann; Council President Limpert;
Council members Brossard, Barker, and Orlowski; Mayor Kennedy and guests.
• Discussed first was liquor permit transfer no. 9115400 Voo Doo Lounge, 24108
Lorain Road. The committee voted 3-0 to not object to the permit as Lt. Cox
conducted a background check and found no issues with this applicant.
Councilwoman Williamson made a motion to not object to liquor permit no. 9115400
Voo Doo Lounge located at 24108 Lorain Road. The motion was seconded by
Councilman Kearney and passed unanimously. Liquor permit no 9115400 Voo Doo
Lounge approved.
• Discussed next was Ordinance 2011-57 which is an Ordinance authorizing the
Mayor to purchase one rescue squad fire apparatus for the North Olmsted Fire
Department through the State Purchase Program; further authorizing the Mayor to
execute necessary contract documents; and declaring an emergency. The
committee voted 3-0 to recommend approval of Ordinance 2011-57.
Clerk of Council Gallo read a letter into the minutes from Duane Limpert in opposition of
Ordinance 2011-33. The letter is attached to these minutes and on file in the Clerk's
office.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane said that Councilman Mahoney is the first person as
President of Council that has asked the audience to stand and join Council in the Pledge
of Allegiance. The common request has been "please join us as we recite the Pledge of
Allegiance". Lambert said he has always taken offense to that because recitation
indicates just speaking something off the top of your head from memory. He thanked
Councilman Mahoney for asking the audience to join Council in the Pledge of Allegiance
to the flag. Lambert said he is strongly opposed to Ordinance 2011-33. He pointed out
that in Mahoney's research, he mentioned the Don Umerley Center and the Cabin and
discussed the presence of the police officer. Don Umerley Center is right behind the
Rocky River Police Dept. It also has a parking lot that does not have kids running around
and crossing the parking lot. Lambert said he is not sure in Fairview Park where they
allow alcohol now. If it's allowed in the Cabin he is surprised that they do. Mahoney
said he was referring to the Gemini Center. Lambert said Mayor Kennedy made a
comment when discussing the issue of whether or not enough police officers could cost a
small group of people too much money to rent the Cabin, or affecting the marketing
5
