Council Minutes of 04-19-2011
Jeff Peepers, 6389 McKenzie Road reminded everybody that the Citizen of the Year
Dinner is Apri128, 2011 and tickets are still available.
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane said he concurs with Terry Groden's assessment of
2011-33. Springvale is a gated affair. People going in and out of Springvale's parking
lot are either going there to golf to go to the party center. He attended a Democratic Club
meeting at the park last Thursday, and the ball fields - at this time of the year -were
filled with people coming and going, hanging around the parking lot at the Cabin and
using the bathrooms on either side of the Cabin. He thinks it's irresponsible to allow
alcohol to be served in the Cabin. It does not enhance the quality of the community. He
knows for a fact that there are some people in the room that have had problems with
alcohol and he cannot believe they would consider voting for this. Even though
something did not happen last year, there's no guarantee it won't.
Cindy McGinty, 24212 Elm Road said she is a member of the CERT team and she
invited the Mayor and Council to a fundraiser on May 10, 2011 at the Rocky River
Brewing Company on Center Ridge Road. The funds raised will be used to help them
with their free disaster preparedness training to the residents of the westshore community,
will help expand the Safety Net Program and database system of special needs residents
and will help fund the alternative to the obsolete reverse 911 system. Mayor Kennedy
said he will be attending and has items to donate. He also thanked McGinty for her
service to her community.
John Lasko, 27834 Sanders Lane said he overlooked acknowledging Councilwoman
Angela Williamson in his speech earlier, and he would be remiss not to acknowledge the
time they spent together on the Planning and Design Commission and how much time he
enjoyed serving with her. He said he is in opposition of 2011-33. He was in opposition
of the VFW's beer tent in the park. It's a community park and a Community Cabin.
There are more than enough other venues where any and all events can be held here in
North Olmsted. Do we adhere to community values or do we change with the wind or
with the times just because it may be the more convenient thing to do? He urged Council
to vote no on Ordinance 2011-33.
Gareau requested to not vote for Ordinance 2011-54 tonight on suspension as he has to
look into an issue regarding this.
Councilman Mahoney took a moment of personal privilege to note that the North
Olmsted Historical Society/Frostville Museum is inviting all to attend an event in which
the Frostville Museum's Ohio Historical Society Marker will be dedicated. The
ceremony will take at 3:00 p.m. on May 1, 2011 at the Frostville Museum located at
Lewis and Cedar Point Roads in the Rocky River Reservation in North Olmsted's
Metroparks.
9
~,._.
