Council Minutes of 6/4/96
„m c. Ordinance 96-62, which had been on hold and which authorizes the bidding and
,, purchasing of three automobiles for the Mayor, Safety Director and Service Director.
Two of the present cars are high mileage and are beginning to suffer maintenance
problems. Since the cars still have a fairly decent trade-in value, it was decided to go
ahead with this legislation and the committee recommended approval.
Mr. Nashar, Chairperson of the Public Safety, Health and Welfare Committee: 1) The
committee met on May 28 and in attendance were Council Members Lind, Saringer,
Limpert, O'Grady, McKay, Musial and Nashar; Safety Director Kasler; Service Director
Bohlmann. The following items were discussed:
a. Ordinance 96-89, which authorizes the installation of "No Parking" signs on the fire
hydrant side of Alexander Road. The road has been reconstructed with curbs as opposed
to berms, and it will be difficult for safety vehicles to have access with parking on both
sides of the street. The committee recommended approval.
b. Ordinance 96-91, which authorizes the removal of the "No Left Turn" sign southbound
on Dover Center Road at the Toys-R-Us driveway. This will help reduce the traffic flow
at the intersection of Dover Center and Lorain Roads. The committee recommended
approval.
c. Ordinance 96-93, which amends Section 541.05 of the General Offenses Code to
provide for a misdemeanor penalty for unauthorized skate boarding on private property.
This is being done for the protection of children and property owners. Signs installed by
property owners must be approved by the Safety Director. The committee recommended
approval.
Mr. Limpert, Chairperson of the Transportation Committee: 1) The committee met on
May 28, and in attendance were committee members O'Grady, Saringer and Limpert;
Council Members Lind and McKay; Safety Director Kasler. Ordinance 96-87 was
discussed. This legislation accepts an easement at the corner of Butternut Ridge and Fitch
Roads for the new traffic control system. The easement covers a small corner of the
Hogue's property. The committee recommended approval.
Mr. O'Grady, Chairperson of the Intra-Governmental Relations and Legislation; Long-
Range Planning Committee: 1) The committee will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 17,
to hear a presentation from representatives of the North Olmsted City Schools on their
experiences with long-range, strategic planning.
2) With regard to Mr. Nashar's report on Alexander Road, it should be noted that the
road is not wide enough to permit parking on both sides. Technically, people who park on
the fire hydrant side now could be cited. The signs will serve as notice that parking is not
permitted.
4
~~
