MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
NOVEMBER 18, 1997
Present: Council President Boehmer, Council Members Limpert, Lind, McKay,
Musial, Nashar, O'Grady, Saringer
Also Present: Mayor Boyle, Law Director Gareau, Finance Director Burns, Clerk of
Council Seman
Council President Boehmer called the meeting to order at 8 p.m. in Council Chambers,
5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio.
Members of the audience were invited to join Council in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance
to the Flag.
Mr. McKay moved to approve the minutes of the Council meeting of November 5, 1997
as written; second by Mr. Nashar. Motion passed unanimously.
President Boehmer made the following announcements: 1) Ordinance Nos. 97-101,
97-110 and Resolution No. 97-111 will be passed under suspension of the rule; 2) Two
Council-at-Large positions will become available on January 1, and applications will be
accepted in the Council office until December 31.
REPORTS
Mayor Boyle: 1) He has been asked to be the honorary principal of the high school on
Thursday as the schools celebrate National Education Week.
2) Yesterday North Olmsted won one of several community safety awards given by the
American Automobile Association. The awards were given to communities that have
gone at least a year without a pedestrian fatality. The head of the State Highway Patrol,
Colonel Ken Marshall, spoke at the ceremony. Colonel Marshall spoke about the I-480
patrol issue. The federal grant used to fund the patrol of the highway has been depleted,
and the patrol is now being paid out of his normal budget which is funded from license and
gas taxes. There is a possibility the patrol of I-480 will be discontinued. The Constitution
of the State of Ohio requires the Highway Patrol to patrol rural areas, but the bulk of the
money from the license and gas taxes comes from highly populated counties such as
Cuyahoga and Summit. The Mayor suggested that Council consider passing a resolution
asking the State Highway Patrol and our State Representative and Senator to fund the
continued patrol of the highway in our county.
,~,,,
