MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
DECEMBER 21,1999
Present: Council President Saringer, Council Members Gareau, Kasler, Limpert,
McKay, Miller, Nashar, O'Grady
Also Present: Mayor Musial, Law Director Gareau, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of
Council Seman
Council President Saringer called the meeting to order at 8:06 p.m. in Council Chambers,
5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio.
The minutes of the Council meeting of November 16, 1999 were approved as written.
President Saringer thanked Tiger Cubs Pack 52 from Forest Elementary School for
decorating Council's Christmas tree.
President Saringer announced that a special Council meeting would be held at 6:30 p.m.
on Wednesday, December 29. The agenda will include Ordinance 99-164, Ordinance
99-167, Ordinance 99-168, Ordinance 99-167. (At the request of Finance Director
Copfer later in the meeting, Ordinance 99-161 was added to the special meeting agenda.)
REPORTS
Safety Director Jenkins: 1) Early last week, the Recreation Center had a problem with
water leaking onto the floor of the indoor tennis courts. The problem was determined to
be a leak in the pool that was saturating the ground and leaking onto the tennis court floor
since it is on a lower level than the pool. After investigation of the bed and the shell of
the pool, it was determined that the problem was the piping system under or around the
pool. Closer examination with cameras revealed there was no problem in the plumbing,
either the feed or the return water, but rather in the gutter around the pool where there are
sleeves which hold stakes which hold lane line markers. These need to be reconstructed
as the original construction probably wasn't to the specifications called for in the plans
which resulted in a shallower fill of concrete than what was needed. As the stakes went
in year after year, it chipped away at that and water eventually leaked from the gutter into
those sleeve holes and out and saturated the ground. Repairs have begun and the sleeves
are being moved up to the deck from the splash gutter around the pool. The cost of the
repairs will be approximately $5,000.
Mayor Musial: 1) On behalf of the City of North Olmsted, he wished everyone a joyous
and blessed Christmas and a very healthy and prosperous New Year.
2) A successful and well attended tree lighting ceremony was held on December 9.
Thanks to administrative assistant Mary Creadon for coordinating the event and the
Service Department for decorating the grounds.
I
