Council Minutes of 8/17/99 <br />2) The 54~' annual Homecoming begins on August 26`x'. Once again the city and the <br />,.~, <br />schools are joining forces to make a significant presence. Volunteers are needed and <br />Council is invited to participate. <br />3) On Wednesday, August 18, the VFW Post 7647 will hold a dinner honoring the <br />firefighter and police officer of the year. <br />Law Director Gareau: 1) During the past month, he has been communicating with the <br />Metroparks Board to determine if the city can work out a project for Castle Pines (senior <br />housing) as well as the drainage throughout that area near St. Clarence Church to protect <br />the residents on Barton Road. The communication with the board has been positive, and <br />we are in the process of finalizing an agreement. <br />2) He has formalized and sent the purchase agreements to the owners of the land in the <br />industrial park. Hopefully, these transactions will be completed shortly. <br />3) The Law Department spent a good part of last week working on some relatively <br />complicated ordinances. <br />Finance Director Copfer: 1) She has begun the hiring process for the Assistant Director <br />of Finance. <br />2) Our software accounting and payroll vendor has .resolved one of the two bugs that <br />have been occurring in our payroll YZK version. The payroll system bugs have also been <br />holding up our final testing and conversion of our budget and accounting system because <br />they integrate with each other. We are hopeful that this problem will be resolved by mid- <br />September and we will be able to continue our final testing and finally do the conversion <br />in time to have a nice Christmas holiday. <br />Councilman Gareau asked the Finance Director if she had an update on the situation with <br />the Springvale audit. Mrs. Copfer said she has received no formal communication from <br />the State Auditors, but she is aware that the field work has been completed and they are <br />in the report-writing stage. She does not know for sure when the post-audit conference <br />will be held but believes it will be soon. <br />Mr. Miller, chairperson of the Transportation Committee: 1) The committee will meet at <br />6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 23, in the Old Town Hall to discuss the proposed park-n- <br />ride facility. <br />Mrs. Kasler, chairperson of the Recreation, Public Parks and Buildings Committee: <br />1) The committee met on Wednesday, August 11, at 6 p.m. Present were committee <br />members Kasler, Miller and Limpert; Councilmen McKay, Gareau and O'Grady; Mayor <br />Musial, Service Director Bohlmann and City Engineer Deichmann. The committee <br />discussed Ordinance 99-85, an ordinance that authorizes the Mayor to enter into an <br />agreement with Alan Fishman for engineering services for the proposed skateboard park. <br />First, there was a question posed as to why the city was contracting for services for a <br />project that is to be funded entirely through fund-raising efforts-why this agreement was <br />with the city as opposed to an organization.
