Sidewalks are also being inspected at the same time, and <br />> there have been 26 areas that have been identified as possible problems. No citations <br />have been issued, but the city will be in contact with the residents in an effort to have the <br />problems taken care of on a voluntary basis. <br />2) Along with Safety Director Jenkins, Police Chief Ruple and school superintendent <br />Fenton, he has been discussing the idea of having a second school resource officer in the <br />school system. Having two school resource officers in the schools will enhance <br />student/employee safety and security. The school system would pay approximately 69% <br />of the cost and the city would pay approximately 31%. <br />3) The testing for the Assistant Fire Chief has been completed, and the results are <br />expected to be announced and certified by the Civil Service Commission on June 21. <br />4) The Fourth of July bike parade will be held on Monday, July 5. Council Members are <br />invited to participate in the judging and the parade. After the parade to North Olmsted <br />Park, there will be games for the children and free hot dogs and beverages for all <br />residents. <br />5) There are several fundraising golf outings coming up: DARE on June 25 at <br />Springvale; Chamber of Commerce on July 16 at Springvale; North Olmsted City <br />Schools Education Foundation on July 26 at Columbia Hills. <br />6) Work on the elevation of the first tee at Springvale was begun about four weeks ago. <br />Two tiers were created, and it looks very good. The upper tier is under the American <br />Elm tree and is grass seeded with a shade variety. Marty Young and Mark Wallace <br />expect that the tee will get its first action at the DARE golf outing. <br />7) Great Northern Mall has established asub-station for our Police Department. <br />8) Now that school is out for the summer, the resource officer has been assigned special <br />traffic detail. <br />Law Director Gareau: 1) The current five-year operating agreement with the Regional <br />Transit Authority is about to come to an end. City and RTA officials have been meeting <br />to formulate a new agreement. One part of the new agreement is the building of a new <br />bus garage in the industrial park area of the city. He is in the process of negotiating the <br />purchase of a parcel of land for that purpose. <br />2) Tomorrow there will be an attorney settlement conference with regard to the Chamber <br />of Commerce case. Both sides have been ordered to meet by the federal district <br />magistrate to see if there is common ground that can facilitate a resolution to the case. <br />The magistrate will meet with both sides in a week to see whether or not she can <br />participate in resolving any outstanding issues. <br />Finance Director Copfer: 1) The April revenue and expenditure reports should be <br />available by the end of the week. <br />2) On June 1, $1,224,046.36 was paid down on interest for our bonds outstanding. On <br />June 15, $310,225 was paid down on the interest on the bonds that were due at that time. <br />On June 8, the $2,050,000 in 1999 borrowing was received.
