MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />~~... <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />OCTOBER 3, 2000 <br />Present: Council President Saringer, Council Members Gareau, Kasier, Limpert, <br />McKay, Miller, Nashar, O'Grady <br />Also Present: Mayor Musial, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of Council Seman <br />Council President Saringer called the meeting to order at 8 p.m. in Council Chambers, <br />5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in reciting the Pledge of <br />Allegiance to the Flag. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of June 20, 2000 were approved as written. <br />President Saringer announced that Resolution Nos. 2000-119 and 2000-132 would be <br />passed under suspension of the rules and that the last CDBG public hearing had been held <br />this evening. <br />President Saringer offered condolences to the family of Rita Cestaric who recently passed <br />away. Mrs. Cestaric was an active and long-time resident of our community. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor Musial: 1) Resolution 2000-132 supports the Madelyne Hall-Matthew <br />McConnell-Akin Stewart Home Day Care Safety Act which is currently being considered <br />in the state legislature. This bill is designed to improve the safety of day care facilities, <br />particularly home day care centers. There currently are rather vague violations, and this <br />bill will make it a crime for a provider to make misrepresentations to a parent or <br />government official. Recently, a child being cared for in a home day care here in North <br />Olmsted died, and the father of the child is hoping that this bill will make it difficult for <br />this type of tragedy to occur again. <br />President Saringer read the report from James Dubelko who is the Acting Law Director <br />during Law Director Gareau's hospitalization: <br />The Law Department has received two rulings from the United States District Court <br />in the Chamber of Commerce case. These rulings resolve the two final issues which <br />remained pending for resolution in that case. In the first of the two rulings, Judge <br />Nugent awarded the Chamber of Commerce $92,303.15 in attorney fees on the <br />Chamber's modified fee application. The Chamber also submitted a bill of costs <br />entitling it to recover its statutory costs in the action in the amount of $2,918.59. The <br /> <br />
