• Council Minutes of 9/19/2000 <br />Ordinance 2000-131 was introduced and placed on first reading by Mr. Miller, on behalf <br />1 ~;, of the entire Council, with the exception of Councilman Gareau. An ordinance <br />authorizing the Director of Law to retain the services of Calfee, Halter & Griswold, <br />L.L.P., attorneys at law, to represent the City of North Olmsted in the case of United <br />States v. City of North Olmsted, Case No. 1:95 CV 1109, Consent Decree entered July <br />12, 1995, in the Northern District of Ohio, Eastern Division, and declaring an emergency. <br />Mr. Miller moved for suspension of the rules requiring three readings and committee <br />review; second by Mr. Limpert. Roll call: Miller, yes; Limpert, yes; Kasler, yes; McKay, <br />yes; O'Grady, yes; Nashar, yes; Gareau, abstain given the fact that his wife is an <br />employee of the law firm although she would not personally be involved in representing <br />the city. The motion passed with six affirmative votes and one abstention. Mr. Miller <br />moved for adoption; second by Mr. Limpert. The motion passed with six affirmative <br />votes and one abstention. Ordinance 2000-131 adopted. <br />Mr. O'Grady asked that his votes be recorded on the following resolutions and ordinances <br />which were passed before his arrival: Yes, on suspension of the rules for Resolution <br />2000-120, Ordinance 2000-104, Resolution 2000-105, Ordinance 2000-108, Resolution <br />2000-109; Yes, on adoption of Resolution 2000-120, Ordinance 2000-104, Resolution <br />2000-105, Ordinance 2000-108. <br />MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS <br />Mr. Miller noted that currently three boards/commissions have vacancies: Architectural <br />Review Board, Board of Zoning Appeals and the Fair Housing Board. He suggested that <br />Council members make recommendations of individuals for appointment to the Mayor. <br />President Saringer made the following committee assignments: Ordinance 2000-119 to <br />Recreation and Finance Committees; Resolution 2000-121, Ordinances 2000-125 through <br />2000-129 to Finance Committee; Ordinance 2000-123 to Public Safety Committee; <br />Ordinance 2000-130 to Recreation Committee. <br />Mr. Nashar scheduled a BZD Committee meeting for 6 p.m. on September 27 to discuss <br />Haas Realty. The Building Commissioner and City Engineer are asked to attend. <br />Mr. O'Grady scheduled a Public Safety Committee meeting immediately following the <br />BZD Committee on September 27 to discuss Ordinance 2000-123. The Safety Director <br />and Fire Chief are asked to attend. <br />Mr. Limpert scheduled a Recreation Committee meeting for September 27 immediately <br />after the Public Safety Committee meeting to discuss Ordinance 2000-I30. The <br />Recreation and Finance Committees will meet jointly immediately following the <br />Recreation meeting to discuss Resolution 2000-119.
